Poland needs to make further sizeable consolidation steps to bring its budget deficit back below EU limits, but the European Commission won't be taking further corrective steps against the country, the EU's executive arm said on Wednesday. Poland has until 2012 to bring its deficit back below the 3% of GDP limit stipulated by EU rules. Its budget deficit is expected to be around twice that level in 2010.
"Poland has taken action towards the correction of the excessive deficit within the time limits set by the Council," the Commission said in a statement.
